Your website is your online storefront.
It’s where potential clients come to learn more about your services and ultimately decide whether to work with you. However, I see many businesses with similar issues on their websites that could be costing them clients. In this blog post, we’ll discuss these mistakes and how you can fix them to make a strong and impactful first impression on your target audience.
Is it clear what you do and who your ideal client is?
Many businesses make the mistake of not clearly defining their offerings on their website. Your website should clearly state what services you provide and how they can help potential clients.
Be specific and highlight your unique selling points that stand you out from your competition.
You can also use your navigation to clearly show your services, all too often I see services used as a top level link but consider if that link would be better called coaching or something else more explanatory. Get as many of your product names on your
Another mistake is not having a clear call-to-action (CTA) on your website. A CTA is a prompt for visitors to take a specific action, such as signing up for a consultation or subscribing to your newsletter. Without a strong CTA, visitors may leave your website without taking any action, missing out on potential leads. Make sure your CTA is prominently displayed and enticing to encourage conversions.
Social Proof
Another piece missing on websites is social proof. Testimonials and reviews from satisfied clients can be extremely powerful in convincing your next client of your expertise and credibility.
Make sure to include these on your website and regularly update them to showcase your success stories.
Is your website user friendly?
Many businesses also make the mistake of not having a user-friendly website. This includes having a cluttered layout, slow loading times, and difficult navigation.
A poorly designed website can lead to a negative user experience and lower your chances of converting visitors into clients. Make sure your website is clean, easy to navigate, and mobile-friendly.
Is your website regularly updating with fresh content?
Most companies are advocates of continuous personal development. Are you sitting refresher courses and accreditation but not updating your website with logo’s and your newly acquired skills? In a similar way that some website owners are adding to their websites after learning new skills without consideration of the website structure and the experience for the website user, others are not updating their website to reflect their ongoing skills development at all.
You may be missing out on search traffic for the latest buzz word or phrase in your industry that you know a lot about but you have just never flown the flag to show it.
Use your blog!
Lots of you have them but are you using them? A blog section is a great way to provide valuable insights and establish yourself as an expert in your field. It also helps with SEO and can attract more traffic to your website if you are creating articles that support your services. Make sure to consistently publish high-quality content to keep your website relevant and engaging and link your articles to the relevant pages.
Be careful not to stray off topic as this can damage the relevance of your website pages. If your specialism is alloy wheels, don’t post about car sales, you will dilute your own messaging. Stay on topic. If you are trying to be relevant in local search don’t be scared to add some area related posts. As an example I added come charity events posts to this website and increased my visibility in those areas.
